Five Ad Analysis

#1

This was a promotional ad by Adidas, just before the Cricket World Cup in 2003, featuring cricketing superstar Sachin Tendulkar hitting a stunning lofted straight drive straight over the bowler's head and into the stands. The sanskrit hymn in the background adds a rhythm and an ethereal feel,  signifying how this event affects the masses (shattering glass, praying old woman, nuns, fans), in keeping with his 'God' status in India; an aura of invincibility. The use of stop-motion visuals brings about a 'wow' factor. Eventually the 3 stumps on the pitch morph into the branding logo for the company, bringing about a balance and a direction in the final frame, leaving an impression in the viewer's mind.

Not sure how else to analyse a video. :)

#2

This is a restaurant hoarding inside a mall in Gurgaon, India. The two lips appear to be an optical illusion, however enticing the viewer to think about double food!
The positioning and white spaces in the frame lead the viewer from the text to the image, lending a contrast to the frame, and keep one staring at the lips. Simple and clever!

#3

This was a recent print ad by Royal Enfield Motorcycles. Shot on one of the highest motorable roads in the world in the upper Himalayas, this picture denotes a sense of freedom. Of scaling heights and achieving goals that excite the soul; something many in our generation forget amidst the capitalist environment. The contrast from blue skies to snowy landscapes draw the viewer's attention to the bike in the foreground. The inclined axis adds a form of symmetry to the picture and take the direction forward towards the motorcycle, encouraging one to 'trip' and liberate!

#4

This is an online print ad linking to the official site of FC Barcelona. In the foreground is the first team roster featuring their superstar players (David Villa, Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta) positioned in the centre of the frame. The picture has perfect balance and symmetry and gives an intimidating feel, much in keeping with their super-high levels of performance.
With the team logo positioned well and only very little white space following that, it entices the viewer to click the 'enter' link, and hit their home page!

#5

Another recent print ad by Royal Enfield, this time using the Darwinian model to signify the evolution of a baby into a child and then into a boy, gradually growing up until he is on a bike and 'evolved'. The plain white background emphasizes the objects. The forward direction encouraging the viewer to 'leave home' on an Enfield!
